Its action starts taking effect within thirty to sixty minutes of usage and may last over twelve hours. Fluticasone is not necessary for patients with easily treated asthma, for example using fact-acting inhalers. If you have any acute episodes of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, you should not be taking Fluticasone.

The recommended dosage for asthma patients over twelve years old is, one inhalation not exceeding 500/50 mcg twice a day, normally in the morning and evening about twelve hours apart. For patients between the ages of four to eleven years old, a dosage of one inhalation of 100/50 mcg twice daily. The recommended dosage for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is one inhalation of 250/50 mcg twice a day.

Fluticasone medication comes in three different forms each containing 50 mcg of salmeterol. The medication can be had in doses of 100/50, which provides 100 mcg of fluticasone propionate, 250/50 with 250 mcg of fluticasone propionate, and 500/50 with 500 mcg of fluticasone propionate.

Fluticasone should be stored at 36-86 ° F. It should also not be frozen or placed near heat or flames.

The major side effects are upper respiratory tract infections, which occur in up to 25% of patients. Headaches also occur in about 12% of patients. Other side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, mouth and musculoskeletal pain. Long-term use may increase the risk of asthma-related death.
