AMLODIPINE   AMLODIPINE

Amlodipine is one of the most accepted and recognized drug for the treatment of high blood pressure and angina like chest pains. Amlodipine is generally used singularly as well as in combination with some other drugs too. Amlodipine is the calcium channel blocker and works by relaxing or expanding the blood vessels, lessening blood pressure and reducing heart rate which in turn minimizes the workload on the heart. It also expands the coronary arteries by enhancing the blood flow to the heart.

Amlodipine should be used strictly as directed by the physician or as recommended on the product labels. In general it is suggested that Amlodipine should be taken with or without foods and if stomach upset is experienced then take only with the food for avoiding stomach irritation. The grape fruit or its juice may cause side effects with Amlodipine so avoid taking them together. Continue taking the medication unless otherwise advised by the doctor and do not club two doses together even if you miss out any dose. Also avoid taking this medicine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or talk to the doctor.

Medications of any description may cause mild to serious side effects, so does Amlodipine too. It has been noticed that some common side effects such as: drowsiness, fatigue, flushing, headache, muscle cramps, nausea, stomach pains, and weakness may be experienced. Whereas severe allergic reactions, dark urine, breathing problems, raised heart beats, pounding in the chest, swelling of feet or legs, tender, bleeding or swollen gums, yellow eyes and skin are the symptoms of serious side effects.
