CERTICAN   CERTICAN

Novartis manufactures the Certican drug which helps is fighting organ rejection in the patients who undergo kidney and heart transplants. This was very recently approved for the prophylaxis of organ rejection in heart and kidney transplant patients. Everolimus has been shown in clinical trials to provide important benefits that would be of great value to transplant patients and their health care providers. Certican is a 'proliferation signal inhibitor' that targets the primary causes of allograft dysfunction following organ transplantation, including acute rejection and vascular remodeling. Certican is also the first drug in its class to receive an indication for both heart and kidney transplant recipients. Prophylaxis of the allograft dysfunction or late graft loss remains a major unmet medical need in transplantation.

Certican is an orally administered investigational immunosuppressant described as a "proliferation signal inhibitor which is currently being evaluated for co-administration with Neoral modified, and appears to target many of the underlying causes of chronic allograft dysfunction or late graft loss. Certican is the only drug in its class approved by most global heath authorities for the prevention of acute rejection in heart transplant recipients. It is currently approved in 48 countries for use in combination with Neoral modified
.
Certican is indicated for prevention of rejection in adult patients at low to moderate immunological risk receiving an allogenic cardiac or renal transplant. Certican should be used in combination with ciclosporin for microemulsion and corticosteroids for good results. In the long run, Certican should be used with a reduced dose of Ciclosporin for microemulsion.
