| 23 years of attempt after attempt to stop drinking.
– I only drank 2 nights a week but when I did drink - I drank until I was highly intoxicated. I usually ran out of money, passed out, got beat up, beat someone up or got arrested for some disorderly act (terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, simple assault, aggravated assault, public drunkenness and that’s not all of them).
I tried AA, Inpatient rehab for 30 days, counseling another 33 days in rehab but still thought I could have ‘just a couple of drinks’ and bam! drunk again. UNTIL VIVITROL - For the fist time in 23 years I have been abstinent from Alcohol for 90 days - No craving, no desire. I know this is not a significant amount of sober time, but I truly believe if it weren’t for Vivitrol I would be dead.
I’ve been described as a very difficult patient by more than one doctor. I’ve been diagnosed as: Bi-polar, Post dramatic stress disorder, alcoholism in addition to my medical diagnosis of Diabetes, Celiac disease and Adrenal insufficiency.
I never lost a job as a result of Alcoholism and have been employed for 20 years at the same company achieving many promotions during those 20 years. I just thought I would share my experience.
