Cozaar is a drug used in the treatment of high blood pressure and kidney problems. It is manufactured by Merck & Co Inc and belongs to the category of angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works on the body by preventing the blood vessels from narrowing down, subsequently lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow. It helps reduce the chances of stroke in people suffering from hypertension. 
 

Cozaar should be avoided if you are allergic to it. It is very important to avoid Cozaar if you are pregnant. The drug might severely injure the fetus or even kill it. Consult your physician before taking Cozaar, if you are using some of the other medications prescribed for high blood pressure. Also, it’s advisable to avoid the drug if you suffer from congestive heart failure or kidney or liver problems. Always consult your physician before taking the drug, irrespective of your health, as he might be able to suggest the right dosage for you. It is always preferable that you tell your doctor about any other medicine that you may be taking before you take cozaar.

Mild side effects include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, dry mouth, and dizziness. These are commonly reported and you can continue your medication. Serious side effects include hives, difficulty breathing, swollen face and lips, irregular heartbeats, jaundice, and swelling. In such cases, stop the medication at once and consult your physician immediately. However, most of these symptoms are reported only when the patient has an allergic reaction or a case of over dosage, both of which are completely avoidable if you consult your physician beforehand.
