Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressant drug developed by Novartis widely used for post-allogeneic organ transplant to reduce the activity of the patient's immune system and so the risk of organ rejection. It has been studied in transplants of skin, kidney, lung, pancreas, heart, bone marrow and small intestine. Cyclosporine drug is a cyclic nonribosomal peptide of 11 amino acids produced by the fungus Tolypocladium inflatum Gams, initially isolated from a Norwegian soil sample. Some brands of cyclosporine are also used to treat severe rheumatoid arthritis and severe psoriasis.

Cyclosporine side effects

An allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives; unusual tiredness or weakness; cough or hoarseness, fever, or chills; painful or difficult urination; severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; unusual bleeding or bruising; seizures; or a sudden unusual feeling of discomfort or illness. Also notify your physician if you develop fever or chills, a sore throat, unusual bleeding or bruising, mouth sores, abdominal pain, pale stools, or darkened urine. Least common side effects include: tremor (shaking); increased bodily hair growth; gum problems; high blood pressure; numbness or tingling; or decreased appetite.

Cyclosporine Eye Drops

Restasis (generic name: Cyclosporine) is a medicated eye drop that increases tear production. It is used to relieve the symptoms of dry eye syndrome, including burning, redness, grittiness, dryness, and the sensation of a foreign object stuck in the eye. Cyclosporine Eyedrops have been used in treating Keratoconjunctivitis sicca in dogs and in secondary Sjogren's syndrome in humans.  It has also been used in the treatment of corneal allograft rejection.
