Daivobet is a new drug containing calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate in a new combination so that patients suffering from psoriasis benefit from both active ingredients. Studies conducted showed that these two ingredients increased the efficiency of the ingredients, providing for marked improvement after a week of its psoriasis treatment. There is also a safe and well tolerated treatment which has to be applied to affected areas once a day.

Daivobet ointment has to be applied once everyday for topical treatment in adult patients 18 years and older. The maximum dosage in adults should not exceed 15 grams per day and 100 grams a week. Not more than 30% of the body surface should be treated. And it is not advisable to use Daivobet for longer than 4 weeks. At its completion, patients have to change to a single agent therapy for maintenance of treatment.

The areas treated with Daivobet have to be protected from direct sunlight and UV light with clothing. Topical calcipotriol can be used with UV radiation if the physician and patient consider the benefits are more than its risks. Daivobet is not recommended in use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Some side effects of Daivobet include allergic sensitization of its ingredients, possible viral lesions in skin because of corticosteroid content and are not advised in patients with renal insufficiency or severe hepatic disorders. Psoriasis is not at all advised for ophthalmic use.

Patients should not be used on the face as it gives rise to itching and erythema of facial skin. It is important to wash hands after use of Daivobet ointment to prevent transfer of ointment to the other parts of the body.
