ID Biomedical Corporation of Canada has developed anti-influenza virus vaccines under the brand known as Fluviral and the company has entered into the formal agreements for the product’s sales through Henry Schein Inc known as HSIC. The said agreement will come into official force with effect from the receipt of an official approval for the product by the United States, Food and Drugs Administration. On getting the formal approval for Fluviral, the ID Biomedical Corporation is planning to manufacture up to the targeted 15 million doses for the US markets and increase this production to nearly 38 million doses by the year 2007.

The Fluviral vaccines, also known as the ‘Flu Shots’ are used for preventing the infections caused by the viruses of influenza. The Fluviral vaccines are designed to work by causing our body to generate protective antibodies guarding against the diseases of influenza. The influenza virus vaccines are also available in the nasal spray forms. Though there are various types of influenza viruses as revealed by the medical sciences, only a few of them really cause problems in any given year. Hence, before the production of any influenza vaccines take place each year, the World Health Organization or WHO and the United States as well as Canadian Public Health Services determine which of the influenza viruses would be most likely to be causing influenza infections during that particular year.

Influenza is the viral infection of throat, bronchial tubes and lungs, also causes fever, chills, cough, headaches, muscle aches and pains in the back, arms and legs. In some sever cases in the elderly people, the symptoms get more serious and require to be treated at the hospitals. Many people even die of this infection each year. Hence it is ideal to take the anti-influenza vaccine every year. The influenza virus vaccine does not ensure protection to everyone who has taken injection anyway.
