Galvus is the anti-diabetic drug formulated by using Vildagliptin which was earlier recognized as LAF237. It is the latest oral hypoglycemic anti-diabetic drug from the new di-peptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor class of drugs. Galvus or Vildagliptin restrains the inactivation of GLP-1 by DPP-4, permitting GLP-1 to potentiate the secretion of insulin in the beta cells. The drug is under the specific mandatory clinical trials and has been proving to decrease the hyperglycemia levels in the Type 2 diabetes mellitus. 

Vildagliptin has already been submitted to the Foods and Drugs Administration of the United States for its official approval and is likely to be marketed under the brand name of Galvus by Novartis. In turn the FDA of the US has demanded additional clinical data before it could approve the drug Vildagliptin including further proofs that skin lacerations and kidney diseases reported during the earlier studies on animals have not turned up during the drug’s trials on human beings. Meanwhile it has been officially informed to the public by Novartis that their new drug application – NDA for Galvus having been prepared by using Vildagliptin or LAF237 as it was known earlier, has been accepted for the standard reviews by the FDA of the US. If the drug Galvus gets formal approval, it would provide the once every day oral treatment option for the people having Type 2 diabetes. The authentic submission for approval in Europe is also already under its way.

Galvus – the DPP-4 works through the wonder mechanism of action aiming the pancreatic islet abnormalities that causes higher levels of the blood sugar in Type 2 diabetes.
