Lumigan is the brand name of the medicine prepared by using the active pharmaceutical ingredient called Bimatoprost which is made in the form of eye drops. Lumigan fights the high pressure inside the eyeballs. It is the prescription medication and is given for the condition called open angle glaucoma which is the steady increase of pressure in the eyes. Generally, Lumigan is used after the other remedies that would have caused problems or failed to work. The medication lowers the pressure by promoting drainage of the fluids called aqueous humor which fills the eyes.

Lumigan has been known to cause certain variations in the appearance of the eyes such as: the color of the iris – the circular colored membrane behind the cornea in the eyes – may change to brownish, the eyelids may darken, and the eye lashes may also get affected by increasing in its length, thickness or number and turning into the darker shade too. Anyway, such changes, if taking place, may take longer time, may take a few months or even a few years to get noticeable. These modifications may be permanent too, especially for the patient who has used Lumigan in only one of his eyes. This eye drops are usually administered once every day unless otherwise recommended by the doctor.

Contact lens have to removed before applying Lumigan and after administering the medication, wait for at least 15 minutes to reinsert your lens. In case is the patient is using any other eye drops also then maintain the gap of at least 5 minutes between the different medications. Do not allow the tip of the medication container to touch your eyes, face or fingers for avoiding the contamination as well as risk of getting the eyes infected anyway.
