This product is a small, flexible device that is placed in the uterus and is used to prevent pregnancy. The device works by slowly releasing a hormone (levonorgestrel) and is used in women who desire long-term (up to 5 years) and reversible birth control. This product is only intended for use in women who have previously given birth, have only one sexual partner (are monogamous), have no history of certain sexually-related infections/conditions (e.g., pelvic inflammatory disease, sexually transmitted disease), or no history of certain problem pregnancy (ectopic). For more information, consult your doctor. The use of this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., HIV, gonorrhea).
