OMNARIS   OMNARIS

Omnaris is used in the treatment of nasal symptoms that are associated with perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis. It is an intranasal corticosteroid having the active substance Ciclesonide in it. It is advised for use in patients above the age of 12 but has been lately approved for use in children between the ages of 2 to 11 years.

With allergic rhinitis, there is usually a chronic inflammatory disease in the nasal mucosa that brings about sneezing, discharge, congestion and itching. It can be caused by allergic triggers and other triggers like pet dander and dust. Studies showed that patients taking Omnaris nasal spray for different lengths of time experienced an 8 to 10 percent better reduction in nasal symptoms when compared to placebo.

The most common side effects of Omnaris are inflammation of the nose and throat linings, nosebleeds and headache. So if you are allergic to any of the components of Omnaris, don’t use it. There are some risks associated with using Omnaris like possibility of infection as Omnaris weakens the immune system and makes you more susceptible to infections. There may also be adrenal insufficiency or corticosteroid withdrawal; so contact your healthcare professional if you get joint pain or muscle pain, depression or withdrawal.

There have been reports of children experiencing slowed growth with Omnaris. So monitor the child’s growth when using Omnaris. Prolonged use of Omnaris may lead to an infection in the nose and pharynx; in such cases stop using it and have the infection treated. To avoid complications, use Omnaris as prescribed by the doctor.

Before starting Omnaris, inform the doctor if you have had a recent trauma or surgery to the nose, have any form of infection, have or had cataracts, have taken corticosteroids orally recently or are pregnant, intend to be pregnant or are breastfeeding.
