ORAPRED   ORAPRED

Orapred is a trade name for the generic drug Prednisolone. Orapred has number of uses in the treatment of cancer. Orapred is generally classified as a glucocorticosteroid.  It helps to reduce swelling, itching, redness, and allergic reactions and can be used to treat severe allergies, skin problems, asthma, arthritis and other conditions. Generic prednisolone oral solution and syrup are available for sale and can be procured at any time.

ODT Orapred

The FDA approved an orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) formulation for prednisolone sodium phosphate (Orapred ODT, made by BioMarin Pharmaceutical, Incorporation and marketed by Alliant Pharmaceuticals, Incorporation).

This product uses proprietary technology to provide a taste-masked, nonrefrigerated formulation of prednisolone. Eventhough the ODT tablets are primarily indicated for the treatment of acute asthma exacerbations in children, they can also be used to control severe, persistent asthma and to reduce the inflammatory components of many other medical conditions, such as arthritis and cancer. The ODT capsules will be available in 13.4-, 20.2-, and 40.3-mg strengths that correspond to 10-, 15-, and 30-mg prednisolone bases, respectively. The dose may vary initially from 10- to 60-mg prednisolone base per day, depending on the specific disease being treated. Because the tablets may not be broken, use of an oral liquid formulation may be needed when tapering doses to below 10 mg.

Side Effects of Orapred

Increased appetite, irritability, difficulty sleeping (insomnia), swelling in your ankles and feet (fluid retention), nausea, take with food, heartburn, muscle weakness, impaired wound healing, increased blood sugar levels. (Persons with Diabetes may require having blood sugar levels monitored more closely and possible adjustments to diabetes medications).
