Trexima using Pozen's MT 400 technology has been developed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as a novel combination of sumatriptan and naproxen sodium in a single tablet. The triptan alters the constriction of the blood vessels, which correlates to the aid of the migraine pain. The NSAID inhibits the enzyme responsible for the production of prostaglandins, which are the mediators of pain and inflammation, thereby enhancing the effectiveness, speed and duration of migraine symptom relief.

Trexima is the proposed brand name for the combination of sumatriptan succinate, formulated with RT Technology, and naproxen sodium, in a single tablet for the treatment of migraine. The NDA is currently seeking marketing approval in the United States
 
SUMATRIPTAN SUCCINATE

Sumatriptan Succinate is a prescription medication suggested for the acute treatment of migraine in adults. Trexima should only be used when a clear diagnosis of migraine has been established. Patients should not take Trexima if they have certain specific types of heart disease, history of stroke or TIAs, peripheral vascular disease, Raynaud syndrome, or blood pressure that is uncontrolled. Patients with risk factors for heart disease, such as high blood pressure, diabetes or a smoker, high cholesterol, should be evaluated by a doctor before taking it.

NAPROXEN SODIUM

This is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug limited in a number of over-the-counter medications. Naproxen sodium is indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, and juvenile arthritis. It is also indicated for the treatment of bursitis, tendinitis, acute gout, and for the management of pain and primary dysmenorrhea.
