Viread is the anti-HIV medication which averts HIV from varying the hereditary material of healthy T-cells. It stops the cells from creating fresh virus and reduces the amount of virus in the body. The nucleotide analogues like Viread are quite same as nucleoside analogues. The only difference is that nucleotide analogues are chemically pre-activated and hence needs reduced processing in the body for them to become active.

Viread is produced by Gilead Sciences was recognized by the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration for the treatment of HIV in 2001. This drug is sold as the singular drug which is usually taken conjoined with other anti-HIV drugs. The drug is also considered effective against the hepatitis B viruses – HBV, the viruses causing hepatitis B. Many physicians prescribe this drug for both hepatitis-B and HIV treatments. 

Viread are 300 mg pills recommended to be taken once every day with or without foods. It is not permitted for the children below 18 years of age. As per the studies Viread is efficient in treating the HI when combined with other anti-HIV drugs. Viread should not be taken alone as monotherapy.

There are several serious to very serious side effects connected with Viread like: lactic acidosis which could be life-threatening besides developing serious liver problems, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, weakness and exhaustion, shortness of breath, yellowing of skin and eyes, pain in the upper portion of the stomach. Also the drug may cause bone related problems. Viread is also reported to cause kidney related consequences to HIV positive patients.
